Years ago, I heard a Christian speaker give a talk about uncertainty. Itโs a reality of life and many times it shakes us to our very core. The loss of a loved one, a financial emergency, or even just being unsure of what to do next.
The speaker pulled out a passage of Scripture Iโd personally never heard taught before: 2 Chronicles 20. In this chapter, King Jehoshaphat of Judah is informed that a massive army is marching against them, and fear spreads through the nation. The king calls the people to fast and seek the Lord.
As the people pray, Jehoshaphat makes a simple but powerful confession: "Neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee." (2 Chronicles 20:12)
Have you ever felt that way?
I know I have.
God's answer was equally powerful: "The battle is not yours, but God's." (2 Chronicles 20:15)
The next day, the king did something radical.
Instead of sending elite soldiers to the front lines, the king sent singers in front of the army to praise God before the battle had even begun. When Judah arrived, they discovered that God had already defeated their enemies.
What an incredible reminder for us today. We all face battles that seem bigger than we are. We encounter situations we cannot fix and problems we cannot solve. And sometimes when the going gets tough, the tough have no chance of getting going.
Yet God never asks us to carry those burdens alone. He calls us to trust Him, obey Him, and remember that He is at work even when we cannot see it.
Whatever uncertainty you may be facing today, take heart. The battle belongs to the Lord. Through Christ, the greatest battle has already been won, and because of Him, we can face every challenge with confidence in God's victory.
Reflection: What battle have you been trying to fight in your own strength that you need to place in God's hands today?
